Lyngblomsten is a Christian nonprofit organization that provides healthcare, housing, and community-based services to older adults. For more than a century, we’ve been serving older adults and their families from our campus in the Como Park neighborhood of St. Paul, which today is home to the:
- Lyngblomsten Apartments, a HUD-subsidized rental apartment building
- The Heritage at Lyngblomsten, a market-rate assisted living apartment building
- Lyngblomsten Care Center, a skilled-nursing facility that offers transitional rehab and long-term skilled nursing care
In 2023, we welcomed our first residents to Lyngblomsten at Lino Lakes, a new senior living community located off of Hodgson Road and County Road J. The campus offers a full continuum of living options, including independent living (both apartments and detached rental townhomes), assisted living, and memory care, as well as a variety of amenities, including a warm water pool and fitness center, three dining venues, theater, game room with golf simulator, studio/classroom, and more.
In addition to housing and healthcare options, Lyngblomsten provides a variety of community-based resources for older adults living in the east/northeast Metro through Lyngblomsten Community Services. Community Services equips older adults and their family caregivers for living well at home, offering:
- Memory loss enrichment programming:
The Gathering is one of our enrichment programs for adults experiencing memory loss. Offered three times each week at both our Como Park and Lino Lakes campuses, The Gathering provides participants with four hours of engaging, brain-stimulating activities in a fun environment. This allows their family caregivers to take a much-needed break. Adults with memory loss also can participate in the Memory Collective, an online enrichment class led by staff.
- Resources and support for family caregivers:
Our staff respond to inquiries from more than 200 family caregivers each year, providing them with resources, education, and support opportunities that can help them on their caregiving journey. We host support groups for persons who are caring for an older adult experiencing memory loss, and we facilitate opportunities for caregivers in The Gathering to connect for support and resources.
- Evidence-based wellness classes:
We offer a number of classes in partnership with FCNN and Juniper, all of which are geared toward improving participants’ wellness through research-based methods. Classes we offer regularly include A Matter of Balance, Powerful Tools for Caregivers, and Walk with Ease.
- Resources to churches:
Part of our work is to support congregations in their ministry for older adults. Current initiatives include a resource group for parish nurses, presentations on topics related to older adult ministry, and the Care Ministry Network, an online portal that provides training, resources, and networking opportunities for volunteers and volunteer leaders of care ministry programs for older adults.
All of our work is made possible thanks to our employees and a robust community of supporters—volunteers, donors, area congregations, partner organizations, and many others—who help us fulfill our mission of enhancing the quality of life for older adults.
